Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM)

By June 28, 2022No Comments

Salvi is present in the Commonwealth bringing innovative solutions to support the actions and improve the lives of all its citizens.

The leaders of Commonwealth countries meet every two years at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), hosted by different member countries on a rotating basis.
Since 1971, a total of 24 meetings have been held, the most recent being held in the UK in 2018. CHOGM was due to be held in June 2020, but was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Commonwealth leaders travelled to Rwanda to reaffirm their common values and agree on actions and policies to improve the lives of all their citizens. The event took place from 20-25 June 2022 in Kigali.
The official opening of CHOGM was on Friday 24 June, where the main meetings of senior officials were held. The meetings were preceded by four forums, ministerial meetings, side events and other activities.

The objective

The theme of CHOGM 2022 is "Delivering a Common Future: Connect, Innovate, Transform."
This theme highlights how the 54 member countries of the Commonwealth family are "innovating, connecting and transforming" to help achieve some of their major goals, such as protecting natural resources and boosting trade. It was chosen because Commonwealth countries are connected by deep-rooted networks of friendship and goodwill.

Forums

Four forums were held prior to CHOGM to provide greater opportunity for dialogue and debate and to ensure that the voices of women, youth, civil society and business are heard by the leaders gathered in Kigali.

1. Youth Forum (CYF 2022)

The Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF 2022), was held in parallel with the biennial Heads of Government meeting from June 19-21, 2022 under the theme "Taking Control of Our Future".
The CYF brings together young leaders from across the Commonwealth to exchange ideas, network, identify and discuss development issues, challenges and opportunities, and agree on youth-led initiatives to mitigate the challenges they face and create opportunities to improve their lives.

2. Women's Forum (CWF 2022)

The Commonwealth Women's Forum (CWF 2022), was held on 20-21 June 2022.
Delegates at the Women's Forum discussed solutions to address the pressing challenges affecting women and girls across the Commonwealth and to ensure that member countries have strong policies and programmes in place to meet the 2030 gender equality goals.
The CWF's mission is to assert mass support and promote high-level policies for gender equality and human rights; to provide women with the opportunity to interact with Heads of Government; and to ensure that Commonwealth obligations on gender equality are a concern for Heads of Government.

3. Partnership Forum (CPF 2022)

The Partnership Forum is the biggest opportunity for people to engage with Commonwealth leaders on global development issues.
Under the theme "Moving Forward Together," the CPF brings together representatives of civil society from across the Commonwealth to discuss key challenges affecting CHOGM citizens. It is the most important occasion for civil society to connect with Commonwealth leaders on global development challenges. For the sake of our well-being, our ecosystem and our future.
The CPF raised and attempted to address the most pressing concerns of our generation. Specifically, to answer this question: How can we bring the best of humanity, the powers of love, compassion, equality and justice, to bear on our shared future?

4. Business Forum (CBF 2022)

The Commonwealth Business Forum 2022 (CBF 2022) will be the first and largest face-to-face gathering of governments and businesses from across the Commonwealth since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Organized in partnership with the Government of Rwanda and the Commonwealth Business and Investment Council (CWEIC), the Commonwealth Business Forum addressed the theme "Delivering a Common Future: Connect, Innovate, Transform," addressing the impact of the pandemic and the Commonwealth's role in rebuilding and revitalizing the global economy.
