La Aldea Tunnel

in the Canary Islands

La Aldea inaugurated the longest tunnel in the Canary Islands, the safest in Spain.

The Túnel de la Aldea is the longest tunnel in the Canary Islands and one of the 20 largest in Spain.

It has a 3,170-metre-long bidirectional tunnel, the longest in the Canary Islands and certified as the safest in Spain. The tunnel runs from El Risco to the junction of the Andén Verde viewpoint. It covers 7 kilometres with a maximum permitted speed of 80 km/h. These new seven kilometres will mean a significant time saving for road users, as the same journey that used to take 20 minutes will now be done in just 7 minutes, and with greater safety.

The tunnels have a zenithal lighting system using LED projectors, which are more energy efficient and less costly to operate.
