Salvi illuminates the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah for the Fifa world cup Qatar 2022

The inauguration also coincides with the celebration of the International Day of Light

The project that Qatar has prepared to celebrate is progressing, the Fifa world cup Qatar 2022TM in its territory and that will have a spectacular infrastructure of 8 stadiums, 7 of which are new constructions,
An example of this is the inauguration, on May 16, of the Al Janoub Stadium, the place where the final of the World Cup will be held, the match that will elevate a national team and paralyze millions of people to see who can win the cup.

To show its full potential, this May 16, there will be 40,000 seats for the first historic match of the final of the Amir Cup 2019, the largest football competition in the country. A very important day for Salvi, since it coincides with the international day of light.

And to illuminate this project, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the Spanish company Salvi has developed and executed the exterior lighting, both of the stadium and its surroundings, following the designs of Philippe Almon, lighting designer.

Because this stadium is more. Much more. The inspiration of its forms is based on its tradition, on the sails of the Dhow ships that crossed the Gulf.

It is a stadium that from its more futuristic version, recalls the past sailor of Al Wakrah. In addition, the interior structure itself and the luminous reflection make it possible to remember the hull of a ship.

The shape of the stadium hides a remarkably green temperature control method, which makes its aerodynamic design do much of the work. The roof provides significant shade, removing the weight of advanced cooling systems.
Furthermore, we must add its surroundings, the environment that will surround the stadium and that will have new green spaces of around 90,000 m2, with 800 new trees and vegetation of low water consumption. The place will include space for horse riding, running tracks and bike lanes.

To illuminate the entire project, Salvi has used 313 columns and 1090 Circus luminaires, a model that also appeals to energy efficiency with independent high transparency lenses. The columns, to really provide the luminous feeling that was intended, have different heights ranging from 5 meters to 16.2 meters.

“Our product is designed for these special environmental conditions, like all our products, since it is one of our most important markets. We are aware that the product must withstand very demanding climatic conditions, with ambient temperatures above 50ºC and as well as a resistance to winds of dust and sand that can reach 160 km / h. For this reason, when we design, in the prototyping phase, we do different tests at home, that is, in our quality laboratory. In fact, it is not only done from Salvi, but we work with external laboratories to pass rigorous quality controls “explain the managers of the company Salvi Lighting Barcelona, which have been in the sector since 1881.

In addition to this, they also work in the execution of the Al Thumama Stadium, also in Qatar, incorporating design posts of up to 20 meters that have an elliptical ring with RGB.
