Cities are responsible for 75% of all the world's carbon emissions. But when a city's impact is big, it is also where the big changes can happen.
Air pollution poses serious risks to human health, especially in terms of long-term exposure. According to WHO, 53% of the world's population lives in cities where outdoor air quality is below their guidelines, which is concerning considering that 90% of the world's cities have unsafe levels of air pollution and outdoor air quality.
Improving the standard of living and quality of life for all residents is critical for these cities to support future growth. Air quality that meets national standards improves human health and environmental quality of life.
The good news is that there are many ways to make a city greener and thus reduce CO₂ levels. And this task does not fall to politicians alone, the fight against climate change is a joint task.
